Today, the G3 Division game of the Greek Orthodox Basketball League, between St. Nicholas and St. Demetrios Merrick became even more meaningful as we were blessed with a visit from His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros. Before tip-off, His Eminence took time to speak with the children, offering words of encouragement that reflected his deep love, warmth, and compassion for our youth.

 

Prior to the start of the game, both teams gathered at half court, joining together to recite the Lord’s Prayer in Greek. His Eminence was visibly touched by the reverence and confidence with which the children prayed in the Greek language— a beautiful reminder of the faith and tradition that unite our community.

 

It was an unforgettable moment for our young athletes and a true honor for the GOBL family.
